More from my fitness fitness

My son is an 18 year old girl. He takes Ventolin to control asthma symptoms. It works very well, lasts up to four hours. He has tried to take it every day, but it doesn’t help. He says he has to stop taking it because of the relief and anxiety. He was given a steroid for exercise (aspirin), but he says it causes him to stop breathing. He’s told by my GP that if he takes it, he doesn’t need Ventolin, but he doesn’t want to take it anymore. He has no idea what is causing the lack of Ventolin. Does this mean he has to take it every day?

Dr Fox offers an asthma treatment for a child (aged between 12–17 years) in conditions where his asthma is under control. If he does not have control of his asthma, he can take Ventolin every day for an extended period to help prevent an asthma attack. The treatment will take about four hours and it will work to help prevent an asthma attack. He has to give the dose to help prevent an asthma attack. You should give the correct dose of Ventolin as instructed by your GP, which will be given after your dose of Ventolin is completed. If you do not understand the instructions on the label or speak to a pharmacist or your doctor, they will be able to give you a more accurate estimate of the correct dose.

What is Ventolin?

Ventolin, also known as salbutamol in the UK, is a widely used inhaler for treating asthma and other respiratory conditions. It's also one of the most commonly prescribed brands in the UK.

Why is Ventolin used?

Ventolin is prescribed to relieve asthma symptoms and to prevent asthma attacks in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps to prevent bronchoconstriction in the lungs, which is a critical step in the development of asthma.

What is the mechanism of action of Ventolin?

The active ingredient in Ventolin is salbutamol. It works by reducing the production of a number of bronchodilators, such as inhaled corticosteroids, which help relax the air passages in the lungs. This is particularly important for patients who have difficulty breathing or who have asthma.

How does Ventolin work?

Ventolin works by increasing the production of bronchodilators, a type of substance that helps to relax the airways and open up air passages. This results in an increase in the bronchodilation, making the airways more open, reducing the need to breathe more easily.

How quickly does Ventolin work?

Ventolin works within minutes, and its effects can last for up to four hours.
